The SUNTECHMACH SHG1600 is the largest machine in the SHG HDPE fitting fabrication machine range and covers 710mm to 1600mm for PE, PP and PVDF elbows, equal tees, equal crosses and 45°/60° Y-pieces. It is built around two numbers: an 84 KW total connected load and a 21,000 kg machine mass, and everything else follows from them. The heating plate is 72 KW and the hydraulic unit 8 KW, so both the plate and the clamp system are sized for the largest joint in the range; the working pressure class stays at 0-16 MPa. Practically, an SHG1600 is a project: the building, the supply, the foundation and the crane coverage are all decided before delivery, and the machine is commissioned as a cell rather than installed as a tool. Once running it delivers the same operating logic as the smaller models — a removable PTFE-coated plate controlled independently from 0 to 300°C with ±5°C surface deviation, a pivoting plate and planing tool with a safety limit switch, and a separate two-channel timer that counts soaking and cooling independently and alarms at the end of each.
| THE PROBLEM | HOW WE SOLVED IT |
|---|---|
| 1400-1600mm fabricated fittings have very few suppliers | In-house fabrication of 710-1600mm elbows, tees, crosses and Y-pieces |
| A 1600mm joint is unforgiving — a bad weld is a total loss | 72 KW plate and 8 KW hydraulic system sized together for the largest joint in the range |
| Cooling a 1600mm fitting takes a long time and pressure must not relax | Accumulator-fed 0-16 MPa circuit holds clamp pressure through the full cool |
| The building, supply and handling must be right before the machine arrives | Project delivery: layout, foundation, supply and crane planning agreed before dispatch |
| Lifting 1600mm pipe and fittings is a specialised operation | Fixed cell laid out around full crane coverage and reinforced packing with a steel base |
| Detailed traceability is often required on large project joints | Parameter table plus two-channel timer give a repeatable, recordable heating and cooling cycle |
| Project specifications name the fitting standard | Fabricated fittings for systems specified to ISO 4427-3 / EN 12201-3 / EN 1555 / ISO 15494 |

SHG1600 / Selection Guide
| Field | Content |
|---|---|
| 1400-1600mm extra-large fabricated fittings | Choose SHG1600 — the only model in the range that reaches 1600mm |
| You need the largest plate and clamp system together | Choose SHG1600 — 72 KW plate with 8 KW hydraulics |
| You are running a project with named traceability requirements | Choose SHG1600 with the parameter table and two-channel timer cycle records |
| Your sizes stop at 1200mm | SHG1200 installs as a cell too but at 73.5 KW and 17000 kg — less demanding on the building |
| The building, supply or crane coverage is not yet defined | Resolve the project plan first — this machine is delivered as a cell, not installed as a tool |

Operation Guide
- Commission the cell: verify foundation, supply rating and switchgear, hydraulic pressure hold, plate surface readings and crane coverage before any pipe is loaded.
- Set up and square the clamps for the fitting type; close them dry and confirm the hydraulic circuit holds pressure without drift.
- Load the pipe and fitting with the crane, bring the ends together and tighten the clamps; verify concentricity and axial alignment before planing.
- Plane both faces until an even continuous chip forms on each side; confirm flatness and parallelism.
- Set the plate temperature and let the face stabilise fully; re-verify the surface reading with the pipe in position.
- Bring the ends onto the plate at the calculated pressure and hold for the soaking time on the 710-1600mm parameter table.
- Pivot the plate out, join the ends within the change-over time and apply the fusion pressure.
- Maintain pressure for the cooling time on the parameter table, re-checking clamp pressure at least once mid-cool; the timer alarms at the end of the phase.
Common Faults & Solutions
| Common faults | Reasons | Solutions |
|---|---|---|
| Oval, misaligned or unacceptable joint | Clamp pressure drifting over the long cool, or insufficient clamp force for the fitting mass | Top up clamp pressure mid-cool and verify the 8 KW hydraulic circuit; service the accumulator if it will not hold |
| Cold or weak joint | Soaking time or pressure below the 710-1600mm parameter table | Use the correct table; verify gauge readings rather than set values |
| Plate face temperature falls mid-cycle | Faces not flat after planing, drawing heat from the plate | Re-plane and confirm flatness before starting the cycle |
| Hydraulic system will not hold pressure | Accumulator pre-charge lost or internal leakage under continuous heavy load | Service the accumulator and seals; never start a cycle at reduced pressure |
| Fitting shifts during fitting-up | Wrong insert set for the diameter, or clamps not squared | Confirm the insert set, re-square the clamps and re-tighten in sequence |
| Planing tool does not start | Safety limit switch not engaged | Place the planing tool in the frame to release the switch |
FAQ
Q: Can this machine fabricate HDPE elbows?
A: Yes. The machine can be configured for fabrication of HDPE elbows at different angles. Please provide the required pipe diameter, SDR and fitting angle for machine selection.
Q: Can it produce HDPE tees?
A: Yes. With the corresponding clamps, the machine can be used for workshop fabrication of HDPE tees across the 710-1600mm range.
Q: Can it make Y fittings?
A: Yes. Both 45° and 60° Y fittings are supported with the corresponding clamping configuration.
Q: What is the maximum pipe size on the 1600 model?
A: The welding range of the 1600 model is 710-1600mm, the largest in the SUNTECHMACH range. The maximum size that can actually be fabricated depends on the fitting type — contact us and we will confirm it for your specific fitting type and angle.
Q: What power supply does the 1600mm machine need?
A: 380V, 50/60Hz, three-phase, 84kW total: 72kW heating plate, 4kW planing tool and 8kW hydraulic unit. A dedicated supply and switchgear are designed as part of the project.
Q: How much does the 1600mm machine weigh?
A: 21,000kg. Building, foundation, access route and crane coverage are agreed before dispatch, and the machine is commissioned as a fixed cell.
Q: Is a 1600mm machine delivered installed?
A: It is delivered as a project: layout, foundation, supply and lifting arrangements are settled in advance, and commissioning is carried out on site. Please contact us with your site plan before ordering.
Q: Does it record welding data?
A: Yes. The built-in printer records the welding parameters of each joint and the USB port allows export, which is how a 1600mm joint is documented for the project file.
Q: What welding temperature is used?
A: The heating plate is adjustable from 0-300°C with ±5°C surface deviation. Actual heating and cooling times come from the welding parameter table supplied with the machine, based on diameter, SDR and wall thickness.
Q: What information is required to select a machine?
A: Pipe material (PE / PP / PVDF), pipe outside diameter, SDR or wall thickness, fitting type, required angle, power supply, and required production capacity. For this size please also send the site plan, foundation details and available lifting capacity.
Q: Can the clamping configuration be customized?
A: Yes. Customized clamping solutions and OEM branding are available, built around the fittings and angles your project needs.
Q: Where is this machine manufactured?
A: In Hangzhou, China, by Hangzhou Suntech Machinery Co., Ltd. (SUNTECHMACH). The 1600 model is the largest machine in our HDPE fitting fabrication range.
